The Nintendo DS utilises game-specifc friend codes for adding and keeping track of friends. Originally, games with online connectivity made use of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service. However, since this service is no longer operational, you must make use of a replacement service such as Wiimmfi.

Wii

The Wii utilises friend codes for adding and keeping track of friends.

Wii Number

The Wii Number is used for system services and apps, such as the Wii Message Board and the Wii Speak channel. In the past, these made use of Nintendo' WiiConnect24 online service. Since this service is no longer operational, you must make modifications to your Wii to use a replacement service such as RiiConnect24 or WiiLink. Information on how to do this can be found on the Wii Guide website. Once you have done this, you can add me as friend by registering my Wii Number to your address book, found on the Wii Message Board in the system menu. After registering me, send me your own console's Wii Number so that the registration can be completed.

1. Open the Wii Message Board from the System Menu.

   
2. Go to the Create Message menu.

   
3. Open your Wii's Address Book.

   
4. Use the Register button to add a new Wii Number to your Address Book.

   

Game-specific Codes

To add me as a friend for a game, you need to enter my game-specific code into the address book or friend roster of that certain game. Games used to rely on the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection service to provide online functionality. However, since this service is no longer operational, you must use a replacement service such as Wiimmfi.
